Microdosing protocols

It is advisable to microdose according to a set schedule that indicates how often and when you take a microdose. This is what we call a protocol. Six different microdosing protocols have been known so far. The most well-known protocol for microdosing is the ‘Fadiman protocol’. It’s founder, James Fadiman, strongly states that this protocol is primarily intended to allow you to observe the effects of microdosing on yourself. It helps you distinguish between microdosing days and non-microdosing days.

There are several reasons why you might want to use a different scheme. All of them schedule 2 to 4 weeks of rest after you have completed a 4 to 8 weeks microdosing journey. This break or reset is important to prevent tolerance and thus maintain the power of the healing effects of psychedelics. We have listed all 6 different schedules below.

1. The Fadiman Protocol

In our opinion, James Fadiman’s protocol is a very good basis for a first microdosing experiment. It assumes a 3-day cycle, which you follow for 4 to 8 weeks. Try this microdosing schedule for at least a month to find out if it’s something for you. If that’s the case you can continue your microdosing program according to it.

2. Two Fixed Days a Week Microdosing Protocol

The Fadiman’s protocol is not ideal for everyone, as the microdosing days change every week. You might prefer a fixed scheme that matches with your weekly work or social routine. If that’s your case, choose 2 fixed days in a week that fit your schedule best.

Keep at least 1 day between microdosing days!

3. Microdosing Institute Protocol ‘Every Other Day’

After 3 years of mentoring and coaching people, our Microdosing Coaching Team has found out that some people benefit more from microdosing every second day. This proved to be more effective in some cases and situations. Especially people who use microdosing for medical purposes or psychological challenges such as depressive symptoms, social anxiety, ADHD, ADD, migraine or cluster headaches often benefit more from microdosing when they follow this protocol.

Keep in mind that this protocol should be chosen carefully, preferably in consultation with one of our microdosing coaches. If you want to start microdosing for medical purposes, don’t experiment by yourself. Do it under the guidance of an experienced microdosing coach and consult with your doctor or health practitioner. 4. Intuitive Microdosing Protocol

Another way of microdosing is to do it in a completely intuitive way, with only one rule that you always leave at least 1 day between the days on which you take a microdose. People who have followed the Fadiman’s protocol for one or two cycles, often switch to a more intuitive way of microdosing.

5. Stamets’ Stacking Protocol

Paul Stamets is a world-renowned American mycologist, author and advocate of medicinal mushrooms, who developed and tested a new microdosing formula. According to him, the combination of psilocybin, niacin (vitamin B3) and the Lion’s mane medicinal mushroom has a positive, lasting effect on the brain. He calls the use of these three substances ‘stacking’. This protocol is therefore particularly developed for the combination: Lion’s mane, psilocybin and Vitamine B3/Niacin. 6. ‘Nightcap’ Microdosing Institute Protocol

Some people experience some fatigue while microdosing truffles and/or mushrooms during the day. To prevent that, they take their microdose every second day before bedtime, and enjoy a good night’s sleep. It’s recommended to take the microdose at least an hour before going to bed. People who microdose according to this protocol indicate that their dreams are more vivid, they wake up more rested and brighter than before they started microdosing. Mushrooms, truffles and Caapi Vine can all be microdosed in this way.

Note: Do not use this protocol when microdosing LSD, 1cP-LSD or 1P-LSD.

Which Protocol Suits You?

Over the past 3 years of microdosing research, we’ve explored and collected various protocols. The best way to discover which one of them suits you best, is through trying them out. Our team believes that the best is to start with Fadiman’s protocol or ‘two days a week’ protocol. The first one will help you to investigate what microdosing can do for you in your life. We recommend writing your observations down in a journal or tracking them via app. Feel and explore the contrast between an ordinary day and a microdosing day. After your first cycle, or if you experience negative side-effects, you can decide to switch to another protocol.
